Prayer is essential to our faith walk. We all know that, right? What we may not realize as readily is that when we come together and pray in agreement with one another, those prayers can have a very powerful effect. That’s why the Prayer Ministry is asking you to make a commitment to pray in agreement with us over our schools, students, and teachers.
We are asking you to commit to praying once a week, every week, beginning August 28 and continuing through September 30 for our schools, teachers, other staff members, and students in the greater Reeds community.
We are providing a prayer for you below. You may pray that prayer once a week, every week, through the end of September in order to fulfill your basic commitment. You will notice that it only covers the schools in the Reeds “neighborhood:” Reeds Elementary, Tyro Elementary, Churchland Elementary, Tyro Middle, and West Davidson High Schools. We felt it important to start with our own neighborhood.
However, feel free to take our basic prayer and expand it. If you are so led, add other schools, by name, to the prayer. You may use the prayer as a starting point and add other prayers for these schools (or other schools), teachers, and students to it. You may decide to expand it to include all of the schools, teachers, faculty, and students in Davidson County. You can expand it to include preschools, day cares, and Head Start programs. You can expand it to include our Community College, or even other colleges and universities where we have students attending. We’re giving you a basic prayer; you take it and run with it wherever the Holy Spirit leads you!
For those who are ten steps ahead of me and who have already been praying over our area schools, staff, and students…THANK YOU for your prayers. We are hoping to add many more prayers to yours, all standing in agreement, and then we will watch with faith and expectation to see our God at work.
Whatever commitment you decide to make with regard to praying for these schools, students, and staff, please know that it is between you and the Lord.
You may wish to print this prayer out and post it somewhere prominent as a reminder. Thank you for joining your hearts, faith, and prayers with ours as we lift our schools up in prayer for the next month (and if you wish to continue your prayers well beyond September, please do!):
Most Gracious Heavenly Father, we lift up Reeds Elementary, Tyro Elementary, Churchland Elementary, Tyro Middle, and West Davidson High Schools to You. We ask that Your Holy Spirit be present in each of these schools every single day throughout this year, and that the presence of Your Holy Spirit would drive out any darkness, any evil, and all malicious spirits, powers, or principalities from the schools’ classrooms, buildings, and grounds. Let these schools be places of peace and safety.
Lord, we ask for Your hand to be on every student, every teacher, every assistant, every substitute, and every staff member, that You would pour peace, love, and kindness into their lives so that these schools have an unprecedented year of calm, serenity, and unity of purpose. Give the students the desire to listen, learn, and do well. Reignite the passion of teaching in the hearts of staff. Remove the spirits of division, violence, and strife, and let Your peace rule over everything in these schools this year.
We give You thanks, praise, and glory as we pray these things in the mighty name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
I am in the process of putting together a list of teachers, administrators, and other staff members who are connected with our church family so that we may pray for them specifically. If you are a member of the Reeds church family or a member of the Reeds community and are a teacher, administrator, or other staff member, or if you have a family member or dear friend who fulfills one of these roles, please contact us to let us know their name and the name of their school or school system by September 4, 2022 so that we may add them to our list and lift them up in prayer as the school year progresses.
