An Advent retreat will be held on Thursday, November 13 from 10:00 am until 2:15 pm at Davidson United Methodist Church, 233 South Main Street, Davidson, NC, 28036.
The retreat will include reflection on the scriptures related to Advent and Christmas, the anticipation and celebration of the birth of Jesus the Savior; conversation in small groups; silence; time for planning lessons and messages; and a concluding service of Holy Communion. Lunch will also be served. Bishop Carter will be present to introduce Dr. Weems, to participate and to celebrate the sacrament.
Dr. Cynthia Weems is a native of Mississippi and a graduate of Millsaps College, Yale Divinity School and Saint Paul School of Theology. She has served as a missionary in Bolivia, as pastor of First UMC Miami, superintendent of the South East District (Miami) of The Florida Conference and she is presently senior pastor of the United Methodist Church of Sun City Center near Tampa.
The retreat is offered to resource all who seek fresh and faithful ways to understand and communicate the good news of Jesus Christ during the coming year and in this complex season.
The cost is $15, and the retreat is sponsored by the Finch-Hunt Institute for Preaching of the Western North Carolina Conference. Space is limited to 125 participants. As we expect attendance to reach full capacity, individuals and teams from local churches are encouraged to register early.
